Discuss Advanced Uses of Intelligent Computer Systems;
Artificial Intelligence Expert Visits Dubai As Part of International Research Led Tour
Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Experts designing 'Robots' believe similar Artificial Intelligence software can be used to program more general "intelligent computer systems" to advance business planning and living standards.
AI researchers are working on general principles and software tools for programming intelligent software, including, but not limited to robots. Such intelligent systems can be used to automatically solve a variety of real-world problems, such as better stock market trading and planning technology, software for traffic monitoring and advanced systems to facilitate dispatch services of public transport services.
The British University in DubaiBritish University in Dubai
is at the forefront of technology research in the region and is the only postgraduate university to introduce AI education and research as part of its MSc IT programme.
"One important application of AI is in market monitoring, analysis, planning and automated trading. With international markets witnessing dramatic shifts in stock markets, there has never been a stronger need for technology to be closely integrated with stock market planning and monitoring," said Dr. Iyad Rahwan, MSc Information Technology Programme Coordinator at the British University in DubaiBritish University in Dubai
.
Ongoing studies observe that while human intuition often plays a strong role when gauging stock market trends, the potential use of "intelligent computer systems" to plan and 'play' with stock market trading could be extremely beneficial to brokers and traders as it would eliminate emotional and personal influences in decision making.
Rahwan added: "BUiDBUiD
has strong and growing links with leading AI researchers worldwide, and produces high-quality research through work conducted by both faculty and students at the university."
As part of the university's commitment to encourage innovation and research, BUiDBUiD
welcomes the visit of Michelle Blom, a PhD student at the University of Melbourne, one of the leading international universities in AI research, during her research led international tour. Since starting her PhD, her work has focused on the use of argumentation techniques in agent systems.
The primary focus of her presentations will include new research in Golog (a specialized programming language for building intelligent systems and robots) that can be adapted to numerous practical applications.
During her three month international tour, Michelle Blom will be visiting the University of Liverpool and the British University of Dubai.
"It is a testimonial to BUiDBUiD
's efforts to be ranked among such prestigious institutions for research led higher education," said Dr. Abdullah Al Shamsi, Vice Chancellor at BUiDBUiD
. "We are very pleased to host Ms. Blom at BUiDBUiD
are excited about the advanced progress made in the field of Artificial Intelligence."
Several graduates and current students at BUiDBUiD
have made excellent progress through independent research. In 2007, Fouad Zablith graduated with a distinction and went on to have his research on 'Making the web smarter - using Semantic web technologies' published in a top international AI journal.
