Otis Sallid to return with his innovative dance vision
Abu Dhabi, Esteemed American director and choreographer, Otis Sallid, will return to the Middle East International Film Festival (MEIFF) - being held in Abu Dhabi from 10 to 19 October and organized by Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH)- to create the festival's opening and closing ceremonies for the second year running.
The theatrical performances will honor the presentation of international cinema, holding in high esteem the culture and heritage of Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates.
"This marks a significant moment in the international cultural arena, celebrating Sallid's personal vision and his distinctive global style," said Mohamed Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Vice Chairman of MEIFF and Director General of The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH).
"With an expansive body of work, Sallid's accomplishments as a director and choreographer in theatre, television and film are well-known throughout the global entertainment industry. We were deeply impressed with his ability to communicate MEIFF's artistic vision through dance for the inaugural MEIFF in 2007, and have taken the unprecedented step of inviting him back." Quoted Eissa Al Mazrouei, Project Manager of MEIFF and ADACH.
Sallid's work in the Spike Lee films School Daze, Do The Right Thing and Malcolm X positioned him amongst the most notable producer/director/choreographers, and in 1996 he choreographed the 69th Annual Academy Awards.
He also produced, directed and choreographed the 2006 opening live event for the Super Bowl XL featuring Stevie Wonder, India Arie, Josh Stone and John Legend.
Commenting on his collaboration with MEIFF, Otis said:"Choreographing the opening and closing events for the inaugural Middle East International film festival was a dream come true, and being asked to return to choreograph MEIFF 2008 has taken this to a whole new level."
"I'm a great believer in dance as an art form which transcends all boundaries, whether they be language, race or nationality. As an African-American, to be made the official choreographer of one of the Middle East's significant cultural events is truly a great honour."
