- Text size
Dubai - 2 September 2008: With the success and over-whelming response in 2007, Emirates Medical Association Plastic Surgery Society is going ahead with the 2nd National Burn Week, which will be held for the second time in Dubai, UAE from 27th Oct 2008 - 2nd Nov 2008 at the Dubai Police Academy. The event will be held under the Patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance & Industry, President of Dubai Health Authority.
The event is supported and endorsed by international organisations, which include World Health Organisation (WHO), International Society for Burn Injuries (ISBI) and Mediterranean Burns Club. The event is also supported by various governmental organisations like Dubai Health Authority, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Awards for Medical Science, Dubai Police Headquarters, Dubai Police Academy, Ministry of Interiors, Zayed International Prize for Environment.
The theme of this year's event is Together in Burn Prevention. "While the main focus is to create further awareness among the masses in burn prevention and cure, the National Burn Week is also a crucial platform for all medical professionals in the related faculty to share knowledge and adapt best practice methods in addressing issues related to burns", said Dr. Ali Al Numairy, president of Emirates Medical Association (EMA).
Today, with severe fire accidents taking place and several burn incidents being reported, it becomes very important that medical professionals and the public in general are aware of what precautions to take and how to deal with burn victims. Up to 8% burn cases were reported in UAE, involving 725 victims of whom 73 did not survive. It is not only loss of life but loss of property, UAE every year has a loss of AED 3,101,400 due to equipment and property damaged from fire.
Dr. Ali Numairy added "The program revolves around subjects such as Topical Management of Burns, Systematic Management of Burns, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation, Fire and Safety and concludes with two full days dedicated to the public for general lectures of Burn Prevention and Cure. The programme not only addresses the needs of medical professionals but professionals involved with the production and supply of burn prevention tools."
The programme is internationally recognised and all participants will be awarded with CME credits for the benefit of their professional learning and development. The event will attract medical professionals from various countries in the Middle East and will also include key international speakers addressing important topics.
The event is organised by MCI Middle East, who are the leading association management, communication and event management company. With over 28 offices worldwide, they will incorporate best practices from both the western world and the Middle East.
