Syria and Lebanon Affirm Need for Agricultural Integration

Damascus - Meetings of the Syrian-Lebanese Joint Agricultural Committee kicked off on Wednesday, chaired by Syrian Minister of Agriculture Dr. Adel Safar and his Lebanese counterpart Talal al-Sahilli in the presence of the Secretary General of the Syrian-Lebanese Higher Council Nasri Khouri.
Minister Safar stressed the importance of bolstering agricultural cooperation, continuing coordination, and achieving agricultural integration in light of the global food crisis. He expressed hope that the meetings will usher in a new beginning in agricultural cooperation between the two countries.
For his part, Khouri pointed out that the meetings will be the first of fruitful meetings that serve the best interests of the two countries, stressing the importance of bolstering relations particularly in the field of agriculture.
The Committee discussed issues related to export and import between Lebanon and Syria, the role of technical committee in formulating agreements, and cooperation in the various fields of agricultural scientific research.
