Makkah - Emir Prince Khaled Al-Faisal will inaugurate here today an international seminar with the theme "The Urban Development in Makkah-Present and Future," as organized by the Al-Umran Saudi Society.

About 1,000 engineers, architectural experts and researchers in urban development studies from different parts of the world will take part in the six-day seminar, said president of the organizing committee Faisal Bin Muhammad Al-Sharif.

"The seminar will deliberate on the problems and suggest solution for the traffic congestion being experienced during Haj and Ramadan in the Holy City," he said.

The ever-increasing influx of pilgrims has led to a construction boom to provide accommodation for pilgrims in Makkah.

Participants in the seminar will also discuss topics concerning construction of buildings around the Grand Mosque, fire safety and security, power supply and other related issues which would provide more comfort to the pilgrims.

Presently there are a number of gigantic construction projects underway in Makkah.

One of them, the Al-Shamia project, analysts say would change the face of the neighborhood around the Grand Mosque.

It would also expand the area of the Grand Mosque on the western side.

The Al-Shamia Group has displayed a huge model of their project at the Exhibition tent which shall be the main attraction to the visitors.

Faisal said that 10,000 visitors and 30 companies are expected to join up at the expo.
