05 August 2007
Pakistan's Ambassador to Tehran Iqbal Shafkat conferred on Sunday with Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad Adel on expansion of brotherly ties between the two countries.

At the meeting, Haddad Adel described the two sides' relations as 'exemplary' in the Muslim world.

Referring to cultural, historical and religious commonalties between the two countries, he said such ties account for broad-based cooperation between the two countries.

There are vast grounds for expansion of economic and commercial ties between the two countries, he said and expressed the hope for implementation of Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project which would be manifestation of economic prosperity and friendship among the three countries.

Voicing Iran's support for expansion of political, economic and cultural ties between the two countries, Haddad Adel extended invitation to his Pakistani counterparts in National Assembly and Senate to pay official visits to Iran.

The Pakistani ambassador, for his part, called the two sides' relations mainly in economic area as developing and lauded Iran's support to this end.

Referring to the recent events taking place in his country, he urged world Muslims to exercise vigilance to thwart plots hatched by the enemies and strongly deal with extremism and continued presence of alien forces in Muslim countries.

He called Iran's nuclear activities as peaceful and in line with international rules and regulations and said Pakistan fully supports Iran's peaceful nuclear activities.

Iran and Pakistan have incurred great loses from drug trafficking from Afghanistan, he said, calling for more cooperation in solving the problem.

Phenomena such as extremism and terrorism in the region and the world stem from tyranny and injustice done by superpowers mainly the US, he said and called on world Muslims to deal with such phenomena.
