HMSDC and DHCC Join Hands to Promote Quality of Nursing in Region

Course on 'Role of the Nurse in Promoting Patient Safety and Quality'

), a member of Tatweer, organized a two-day initiative promoting the quality of nursing in the region. The Nursing Development Conference on 'Role of the Nurse in Promoting Patient Safety and Quality' was held on 20-21 April, 2007 at the JW Marriott Hotel in Dubai with over 370 nurses attending. said the conference was addressed by a community of experts from Harvard Medical International, Massachusetts General Hospital, Rashid HospitalRashid Hospital
, American Hospital DubaiAmerican Hospital Dubai
, Alliance Healthcare Consulting and the UAE Ministry of Health.
"Nursing specialists from the US and local healthcare institutions spoke on a range of topics at the two-day course, and focused on the instrumental role nurses play in promoting, monitoring and improving quality and patient safety," she added.
Dr. Robert Thurer, Chief Academic Officer, HMSDC and Associate Professor of Surgery, Harvard Medical School, said: "This innovative educational programme aimed at offering advanced knowledge in patient safety and quality. It also provided strategies related to the four domains of nursing - leadership, education, research and patient care."
Arlene Asgard, Programme Director at Harvard Medical International and one of the faculty members, said the conference was designed for clinicians, leaders, educators, quality managers and other staff in the UAE and the Gulf.
"Distinguished multidisciplinary healthcare faculty offered to educate and inform the audience through lectures, panel discussions and case presentations," she added.
Approved by the Department of Continuing Medical Education at HMSDC, the educational programme offered a maximum of 111/2 CEU credit hours.
