HP wins 7 awards in all, including the manufacturer of the year award for the third time in a row. Canon wins six awards, and is the runners up for the manufacturer of the year award for 2005.
PC Magazine Middle & Near East (MNE), the region's most influential and largely read technology magazine, has instituted the most coveted and longest running Manufacturer of the Year awards for 2004-2005. These awards acknowledge the contributions made by the manufacturer, those who have performed above and beyond expectations, with products that shine brighter than the rest.

"PC Magazine MNE's Manufacturer of the Year Awards is based on the same transparent methodology that our labs team uses," said Mr. Bala Menon, General Maanger, DIT Group. "These awards are based on a systematic tally of products that have won recommendations in PC Magazine MNE's group tests and reviews. Companies that have sent in the most number of winning products over the last year are the overall award winners, and the company to win the largest number of awards, is the overall Manufacturer of the Year."

HP dominated the proceedings, with a total of seven awards in all. It bagged the manufacturer of the year award for Inkjet Printers, Multifunction Printers, Photo Printers, Desktop PCs. It was also the runner up in Digital Cameras, and the Servers category.

It was no surprise, then, that HP was also the manufacturer of the year.

Canon, which closely trailed HP in the printers category, received a total of five runners up awards, and was the Manufacturer of the year for Digital Cameras.

Big winners included Samsung, Dell, Sharp, BenQ, and LG; their products have won rave reviews from the Labs in the last year. Lesser known brands were also given their due, surprise winners included AG Neovo, who aced our LCD Monitor group test with Editor's Choice and Best Performer ratings.

The award function was held at The Shangri-La Hotel, situated on Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai, where winners where presented with a citation and an award. The product category of Inkjet Printer saw HP as the winner, followed closely by Canon as the runner-up. In Storage Western Digital took the top slot, while Samsung had to settle with the runners-up trophy. AG Neovo / Fujitsu Siemens displayed their might in the Displays category by clinching the top spot, while BenQ had to settle for the runner-up award. Notebooks and Tablet PCs category saw LG getting crowned as the PC Magazine Manufacturer of the Year, while Asus had to except the runner-up award. HP showed its might by taking the icing on the cake in the Desktop PC category, with Everex following too close for comfort.

Intel on the other hand proclaimed its title as the mother of all motherboard manufacturers by clinching the PC Magazine Manufacturer of the year for the motherboard category, while Foxconn had to settle with the runner-up award. Espon showed its laser power by getting the award in the Laser Printer category, while Dell had to be content with the runner-up award. However, Dell won the award in the Server category with HP winning the runner-up award.

Linksys aced the Wireless AP/Routers category, while US Robotics missed it by a whisker. HP captured the top slot in the Multi-Function Device category; with Canon galloping too slow to win the runner-up award. The surprise came in the Security Software category, where there was just one contender and one winner, with the award being presented to Eset for its NOD32 antivirus application.

The Consumer Electronics category saw HP winning the Photo Printers category, closely followed by Canon. Altec Lansing added boom to the room by winning the award for the Speakers category, while Klipsch had to settle with the runner-up award. Creative reiterated that it's music to ears by confirming the top spot in the MP3 players' category, while Samsung got the runner-up award. Canon took a clean shot at the top slot in the Digital Camera category, while HP got a runner-up award.

Digital camcorders saw Samsung winning the title of the PC Magazine Manufacturer of the Year, with Sharp hopping along to win the runner-up award. Sharp projected a clear picture by winning the award in Projector category, while Canon got the runner-up position. Samsung again aced the LCD Monitor category, with BenQ settling for the runner-up award.

The company that won PC Magazine Manufacturer of the Year, third time in a row, in all the categories, Consumer Electronics, IT, and Building Blocks, turned out to be HP. Canon followed closely, though battle for the top spot was tough.

"Readers trust PC Magazine MNE for their buying decisions," said Mr. Hatim Kantawalla, Editor in Chief, DIT Publishing, "This trust has been built through outstanding reviews and comprehensive group tests, which encompass all the players in the each product category. Last year alone, more than 800 products were tested and reviewed by the labs team."
