Jordan will be out in force at Dubai 2005 - the ninth international aerospace exhibition being held in November this year - with a dedicated pavilion more than double the size of its Dubai air show debut in 2003.

Isam Farhan, Marketing Manager for Jordan Airmotive Limited Co., the Jordanian pavilion organiser, said the national participation growth is being driven by Dubai 2003 success. "The aerospace business in Jordan has a number of drivers that are generating both domestic and foreign investment in the sector," said Farhan.

 "For instance, Jordan is attracting investors in chartering, training schools and even aircraft manufacture. And with Jordan scheduled to adopt an open skies policy by 2007, there will be a dramatic increase in the requirement for aviation support services."

Apart from the planned Dubai 2005 Jordanian pavilion, one of the country's leading aviation suppliers, Jordan Aerospace Industries, which manufactures, assembles and services light aircraft for clients in the Middle East, Africa and Asia, is to exhibit independently at this year's Dubai air show, increasing its stand by over 170%.

"Over the past four years our links with the Jordanian aerospace industry have greatly strengthened and have been assisted by the solid support of His Royal Highness HRH Prince Feisal Ibn Al Hussein," said Clive Richardson, Chief Executive, Aerospace Group, Fairs & Exhibitions (F&E), which organises the Dubai air show.

HRH Prince Feisal is Chief of Staff of the Royal Jordanian Air Force, Chairman of the National Resources Development Company and a Board Member of the National Resources Investment Institute, which works to develop and market resources for the Jordanian Armed Forces.

HRH Prince Feisal spelt out Jordan's commitment to the Dubai air show and the Middle East Aviation Pavilions now being mounted at international aerospace events around the world, during his visit to the first regional pavilion at Farnborough 2004.

"We are currently unique in the region because we have two private sector companies producing aircraft currently in business - one a joint venture, which makes light aircraft for export, which is a first in the Middle East. We also have companies involved in training and the supply of aviation services in Jordan. Ours is a growing aviation sector," he said.

HRH Prince Feisal added that though the Middle East has a developing aviation sector it needed to look for specialised markets. "The aviation industry in the Middle East is strong in capabilities, support maintenance, airport development and duty free management with cutting edge processes. In terms of development, we have to find niche markets to build our capabilities. We have to ensure the industry is efficient and to build the bottom line."

Dubai 2005 Jordanian pavilion organiser Farhan echoed Prince Feisal's approach saying the human resource and technology infrastructure in the country is now in place for future development.

"Information technology and e-business awareness and usage is increasing; as is the availability of a skilled, low-cost workforce and that is an attractive combination to many overseas companies looking to invest," explained Farhan.

"Dubai 2005 offers the Jordanian aerospace industry, and especially newly formed aviation bodies, a high-level of exposure to customers, media, aviation partners and delegations giving them the opportunity to promote the advances made in the country.

"It's a convenient time and a single location to meet with OEMs, vendors and industry suppliers and to discover and share ideas about the MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) sector, which will be a developing market in light of 2007."

Jordan is among 12 national or industry pavilions already confirmed for Dubai 2005 - with Turkey fielding its first at any Dubai air show.

"Four other pavilions are also currently under negotiation," said Alison Weller, Project Manager, F&E. "Pavilion commitments have come earlier than usual - an indication of how fast this particular show is selling and of the increasing importance of the Middle East in the global aerospace picture.

"With over nine months to go before the curtain rises on Dubai 2005, more than 80% of the floor space has been reserved by companies from 18 nations - and this despite the fact that available space has expanded by 10,000 square metres gross with the building of the third hall - Central Hall - at Airport Expo Dubai. The stage is set for the biggest Dubai air show ever."
