Mafraq Hospital to organize Progress in Pathology 2009 Conference |

Abu Dhabi, 2 Nov. 2009 (WAM) - The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at Mafraq hospital, managed by Bumrungrad International, in association with International experts, will be organizing a scientific conference entitled "Pathology Progress", which will be held at the Hilton Corniche Hotel, Abu Dhabi, during 12–14th ,November 2009. Al Mafraq Hospital is owned and operated by SEHA, the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company, which is responsible for the curative activities of all the public hospitals and clinics in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
This event will provide a great opportunity for participants across the UAE and the Gulf region to communicate and relate on a professional level with international experts and also aspires to create a forum for continual professional development in health care for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The lecturers will introduce the latest scientific presentations through workshops on a virtual realistic basis, with the availability of biopsy slides for viewing during the conference. John Nickens, CEO of Mafraq Hospital, has emphasized the importance of organizing such conferences and states; " The importance and significant role in keeping pace with the latest progress in histology and cytopathology related to diagnosis in dermatopathology , breast, gastrointestinal, gynaecological, and lymph node pathology, will provide valuable scientific benefits and enriched scientific progress in various fields, which then contributes to the development of treatments from a professional and medical aspect". Ms.Gail Smith, Acting Chief Operations Officer, Mafraq Hospital, also acknowledged Her support and the importance of such conference’s and adds; "These discussions regarding the latest medical advances and scientific research in the said fields through workshops using a new scientific technique "virtual microscopy", for the first time in the UAE, specifically in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, will enable participants an invaluable experience and opportunity for viewing these presentations and biopsy slides". Dr. Mohammed Yaman, the Medical Director of Mafraq hospital, stated; "This conference will include distinguished international experts as well as local experts from Mafraq hospital, who will discuss different topics on pathology in the field of laboratory medicine. Mafraq Hospital has always worked to provide comprehensive health care services in all the disciplines and always considered as a pioneer in supporting and adopting dissemination of health and preventive education sponsored by Abu Dhabi Health Services Company "SEHA", which is committed to providing quality, cost health care on par with international standards measured through accessibility, affordability, choice and satisfaction"."Furthermore, the conference will include 21 accredited hours by the Health Authority - Abu Dhabi and 21 accredited hours by the Royal College of Pathologist for the members of CPD program".
Dr. Barbara Karwinski, Chair of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Mafraq Hospital, would like to advise that the conference will continue for three days; the first day consisting of lectures and workshops to discuss "skin and lymph node pathology", the second day will discuss "Gastrointestinal and Gynecology Pathology" and the final day session will be "Breast Pathology and Thyroid Cytology" which will include a lecture on breast pathology by Professor Ellis, an honorary professor at Nottingham hospital, UK. A multi-head microscope will also be provided to give the opportunity for participants to discuss and examine pathology slides of special and rare cases in greater depth .Fawzia Al Ma'amari, Manager of Medical Laboratory , Mafraq Hospital, stated; "We are very pleased and excited for this conference, as this will be the first time the Department of Medical Laboratory has had the opportunity to organize an event of this professional level. In future, we wish this conference to be part of our Medical Laboratory Departmental continual education plan , and extend invitations to groups of highly distinguished guests, so as to highlight and discuss on an annual basis, different areas of laboratory sciences".
