Khalifa Fund finances 21 Agric projects

Abu Dhabi, Jun. 9, 2009 (WAM) -- The First Agriculture Sector Businessmen's Forum ended here Monday. The forum was organised by the Khalifa Fund to Support and Develop Small & Medium EnterprisesKhalifa Fund to Support and Develop Small & Medium Enterprises
in Abu Dhabi (Khalifa FundKhalifa Fund), in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Water, Economic Development Department and Abu Dhabi Food Control AuthorityAbu Dhabi Food Control Authority.In a statement, Khalifa FundKhalifa Fund Executive Director, Dr. Ahmed Khalil Al-Mutawwa, said his outfit had effectively contributed in resolving the problem of funding agriculture-related projects, adding that the Khalifa FundKhalifa Fund had so far funded 21 projects at a total cost of AED26.4 million."In spite of the challenges in the area of investment in the agriculture sector due to climate problems and scarcity of rain water in the country, we were able to achieve a lot, deriving inspirations from the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who succeeded in making the greatest agriculture achievement by expanding the green areas of the UAE, a country overwhelmed by desert sands," Al-Mutawwa said, in an address read on his behalf by the Director of Training and Development of the Khalifa FundKhalifa Fund, Nizar Shinior.He called for the adoption of mechanisms and solutions that would provide real support for this vital sector.© Copyright Emirates News Agency (WAM) 2009.
