Conference on petroleum fire safety kicks off in Fujeirah

Fujeirah, Apr 09th, 2008 (WAM): A two-day international conference on fire safety in petroleum industry kicked off here today with participation of a large number of industry experts and government officials.

HH Sheikh Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, deputy ruler of Fujairah attended the opening session of the 'Fujeirah Meet on Fire Safety in Petroleum Industry' organised under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, UAE Supreme Council member and ruler of Fujairah.

The conference jointly initiated by industry experts and the civil defence aims to establish mutual aid mechanism for industries in the Emirate.

Addressing the session, the Director of Fujeirah Civil Defence Lt.Col. Ali Al Tunaiji said that the conference aims at creating an increased awareness among the industry personnel in the country in general, and in Fujeirah in particular, about the dangers of the incidents of fire in this vital sector and its aftermaths.

Saeed Al Falasi, General Manager of ENOC, who spearheaded the industry initiative, said that the incidents of fire are considered among the most serious form of dangers to human lives, industry and the environment, and thus need to be faced with a comprehensive strategy.

The conference, which is beneficial to all stake-holders in the oil and gas sector, is being held with the joint support of Vopak-Horizon Fujairah Limited and the Fire Safety Engineering College in the Sultanate of Oman.

The conference underway at the Al Diar Siji Hotel will concentrate on the importance of planning and developing emergency responses, and put together a readily-available joint action team, according to the organisers.
