Kuwait's resources, at Lebanon's disposal - Ports Chairman

KUNA (Kuwait News Agency)

BEIRUT, Nov 20 (KUNA) -- Kuwait puts all its resources at the complete disposal of Lebanon, Chairman of Arab Sea Ports Federation (ASPF) and Chairman of Kuwait Ports Corporation Sheikh Sabah Jaber Al-Ali Al-Sabah said here on Thursday.

In statements to KUNA on the sidelines of "Friends of Lebanon Conference for Investment and Finance: from Paris III to Beirut I", Sheikh Sabah called for more cooperation between seaports which are gateways to their countries.

"Seaports serve as key channels of not only commercial exchanges but cultural and technological exchanges as well," he said, urging for more investment in their development.

"Maritime transport is witnessing radical changes due to the current global economic changes.

"Seaports need constant development to accommodate the modern container ships with growing sizes," Sheikh Sabah noted.

Sheikh Sabah leads the Kuwaiti delegation to the two-day conference which got underway earlier Thursday.

"Kuwait participation in the conference is pivotal to the concerted efforts by Arab countries to help Lebanon," he pointed out.

"Kuwait puts its resources at the complete disposal of Lebanon. Lebanon belongs not only to the Lebanese but to all Arabs. All efforts focus on backing Lebanon's reconstruction and shoring up the Lebanese economy," he reaffirmed.

The current conference, being held under the patronage of Lebanese President Michel Suleiman, mulls the global financial crisis and its implications for the Arab country, as well as the measures necessary to face up to current and future challenges.

It debates the outlook of the Lebanese economy, and the necessary Arab and international support to boost its renewed take-off.
