CAIRO, Aug 27 (KUNA) -- Arab finance and economy officials on Wednesday approved recommendations and draft resolutions to be submitted to the agenda of the 82nd meeting of the social and economic council at the level of ministers of finance and economy scheduled tomorrow.
Among topics recommended was the need to complete preparations for the socio-economic summit, scheduled to be held in Kuwait next January, in light of the progress report by the preparatory committee for the summit with regard to the Greater Arab Free Trade Area.
The officials called on Algeria to speed up procedures for the implementation of the executive program for a free trade zone, as they also called Arab states that have not applied the 2004 Arab summit resolutions on exempting Palestinian products from custom duties to abide by the decision.
They also called on Arab countries to implement the decision of the Economic and Social Council in 2006 to support Lebanon, as they also agreed to a request by Sudan and Yemen to spare them from the tariff reductions on goods until 2015, as they were the least developed Arab countries.
They also confirmed their support for the Palestinian economy and demanded Arab countries to continue providing support for the Palestinian people to enable it to face poverty and unemployment.
The officials further referred the draft amendment to the statute of the Arab investment court to the legal committee for review and submission to the 83rd session of the Council.
They also agreed to amend the statute of the council of Arab tourism ministers.
Regarding the item on the request of Iraq's to cancel its debts, the Council recommended that the General Secretariat of the Arab League to be commissioned to bring this matter to the League's Council at the level of foreign ministers.
The Council decided to defer action on the establishment of a council of Arab ministers responsible for migration for further study.
