DAMASCUS, Nov 20 (KUNA) -- Syria and Jordan both underlined their commitment during a joint meeting in Damascus, Syria, on Thursday towards maintaining economic cooperation that lessens the effect of the global financial trauma.
A meeting was held by Jordanian Prime Minister Nader Al-Dahabi and his Syrian counterpart Mohammed Naji Utri during which bilateral relations were discussed, in particular those related to trade and commerce.
In his opening speech, the Syrian premier said both sides stressed the need to solve predicaments and obstacles in the path of economic integration as well as means to enhance a joint role between businessmen and the two nations' chambers' of commerce and industry.
He also said that the latest global economical developments make it compulsory for Arabs to practice further cooperative efforts that face current challenges and future hazards.
Al-Dahabi on the other hand pointed out to the need for cooperation regarding the facilitation of the travel of traders and goods in order to increase trade between the neighbouring countries.
He said that signed agreements between both countries would be reviewed by the two officials during the encounter.
Peace and security in the region is a significant doorway to commercial and economic progress in the region, Al-Dahabi added, mentioning furthermore that Jordan looked forward to enhanced economic and commercial cooperation with Syria.
Al-Dahabi had arrived in Syria early in the day on a one-day visit accompanied by the country's commerce, industry and transport ministers.
The visit comes after a recent visit made by Jordan's Head of the Royal Diwan Nasser Al-Lozi to deliver a letter of goodwill from King Abdullah II to the Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.
