Sharjah: Sharjah municipalitySharjah municipalityLoading... has launched a committee to ensure that bachelors are not living in overcrowded accommodations and are adhering to housing rules, Gulf News has learnt.

"Bachelors are not allowed to live with women, and they should have at least three square metres of bed space in their apartment," said Mohammad Salem Al Ka'abi, Manager of Security Section at Sharjah MunicipalitySharjah MunicipalityLoading....

Al Ka'abi has been appointed as Chairman of the new committee that was established two days ago, which comprises of representatives from the Security Section, Technical Department, and the Tenancy Department at Sharjah MunicipalitySharjah MunicipalityLoading....

"The committee shall do whatever it takes to prevent bachelors from living in residential and commercial areas, which are dedicated to families," he said, pointing out that the committee is also responsible on cracking down on violations and issue official warning letters to violators.

Bachelors are currently only authorised to live in industrial areas.

He emphasised however that there is an exception to the rule, in where bachelors are living in residential units within commercial areas, provided that there is no overcrowding.

Al Ka'abi said the committee will be the sole body responsible in receiving residents' complaints about bachelors living in residential areas, and all municipality sections will now refer all cases to it.

"As part of the committee's tasks, it will also issue monthly-reports to the director general of the municipality and inform him about its progress, the difficulties it faces, and about any recommendations that should be implemented in the city," said Al Ka'abi.

Have you faced problems with overcrowding in your area of residence? Did you raise it with the concerned authorities? Was any action taken?
