Dubai: Dow Jones News-wires and market information provider ABQ Zawya have jointly launched a web-based regional financial news service directed at top business executives.
The subscription-based Zawya Dow Jones News Service will be available in English and Arabic and its main focus will be on Arab financial markets, officials of the two companies said.
"This service is separate from the existing Dow Jones news service. It will be available only in the region," Dow Jones News-wires' international vice-president and managing director Michael Bergmeijer told Gulf News.
In a 50:50 venture with Reuters, Dow Jones Newswires offers another web-based news service called Factiva.
Bergmeijer said the service being launched in partnership with Zawya would provide real-time news to clients whereas Factiva serves more as an electronic archive of news drawn from a range of global sources, including Dow Jones and Reuters.
"A very significant focus will be on in-depth reporting," Bergmeijer said.
He insisted the new service will be able to face competition from Reuters and Bloomberg by localising its content.
Fresh ideas
"Reuters and Bloomberg have an international approach in their products and services," he said.
Ihsan Jawad, chief executive of ABQ Zawya, said the Zawya Dow Jones News Service aims to provide "a new degree of transparency and independent business news reporting dedicated to the region."
