ICG honors Fares alongside US elder statesmen |

BEIRUT: Former Lebanese Deputy Prime Minister Issam Fares received on Wednesday the International Crisis Group (ICG) 2009 Annual Award during a gala dinner in New York. Former US presidents George Bush senior and Bill Clinton also received awards. Fares said the ICG lifted him “from my local and regional concerns and thrust me into the concerns of the entire globe.” Fares and Clinton spoke for more than half an hour where they tackled the situation in Lebanon and peace chances in the region. Fares invited Clinton to deliver a lecture at Lebanon’s Balamand University. – The Daily Star
