Hariri to champion strong stance on climate change

BEIRUT: Prime Minister Saad Hariri will champion a “strong” stance during an upcoming global climate-change conference in Copenhagen, activists said Wednesday. During a visit to the prime minister, a delegation from the League of Independent Activists, IndyACT and a number of Lebanese NGOs stressed the need for active participation by Lebanon at the meeting, to be held in Copenhagen next month, a statement by IndyACT said. Hariri assured the activists that he would be present at the international conference and said: “Lebanon will not remain weak and it will get stronger during the negotiations.” The delegation also asked that the the Cabinet’s policy statement address climate change because Lebanon is one of the countries most threatened by the problem. – The Daily Star
