BEIRUT: Senior Shiite cleric Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah slammed on Friday regional and international interference in Lebanon's domestic affairs. "We hear of slogans calling for freedom and democracy, yet regional and international powers interfere in Lebanese domestic affairs and make decisions on our behalf," Fadlallah said during his weekly Sunday sermon at the Imam Hassanayn Mosque in Haret Hreik. "There is a blatant intervention in the process of government formation by regional and international powers," he added. The sayyed urged Lebanon's political groups, "to return to their senses" and ensure the security of the Lebanese. He said plans to confront Israeli threats and violations ought to be discussed. Fadlallah accused various factions of failing to address the dire social and economic conditions. Commenting on Sunday's clashes between supporters of the Amal and Future movements in the Beirut neighborhood of Aisha Bakkar, which led to the killing of a woman and the injury of several others, Fadlallah slammed all those who resort to celebratory gunfire. - The Daily Star
