Zahle MP Skaff promises to revive Popular Bloc |

BEIRUT: Zahle MP Elie Skaff has promised to turn his parliamentary bloc and local following into a full-fledged political movement. Skaff made the announcement on Sunday in Zahle after a Mass to commemorate the party’s founder, Joseph Skaff. The MP said he aimed to revive the Popular Bloc, which was formed in the early 1950s, and see it regain its stature from that era. Skaff, an ally of Free Patriotic Movement and opposition groups, said the change would make the party a party for all Lebanese in spite of their religion so that everyone would unite around their faith in Lebanon. “The Popular Bloc is a party where Sunnis, Shiites and Christians can all be together,” said Skaff. – The Daily Star
