Qatar: Hotels may reduce tariffs
DOHA: Some hotels here are mulling slashing their tariffs to attract more guests and keep their businesses bustling and unaffected by the global economic meltdown. Hospitality industry sources say there is a likelihood that some hotels may reduce their rates by 10 percent to 30 percent in promotion campaigns in the days to come."We (the hotels) are so far not affected by the world financial woes but we are taking precautions and don't want to be caught off guard," said an industry operative.
He said he hoped that not only hotels but travel and tour operators may also follow suit since they fear the recession may hit them directly or indirectly in the days to come.
"We have to be ready with some fool-proof plan to ward off the ill impact of the global recession," said the operative. But hotels here have so far been lucky unlike their counterparts in the rest of the world, many of which are grappling with challenges like lower guest turnouts due to the recessionary pressure.
