New Year orders keep companies specialised in corporate gifts busy

Companies specialised in corporate gifts and New Year freebies are getting enough orders for the New Year.

They said the full impact of an economic slowdown around the world is marginally felt in the field because companies are cutting expenditure in various areas, including promotions and advertisement.

An official source from New Vision Trading, Bur Dubai, a company representing premium gift and novelties from European companies, said the impact of an economic slowdown is clearly visible in the number of orders pouring in for the New Year. But, there are good number of big companies that are ready to impress their customers with customised gold coins and other costly souvenirs, which have long shelf life and value.

"There is a decline in the volume of orders from big Middle Eastern companies for corporate gifts because they are slashing advertisement and promotional budgets. We are in the business for the past 10 years and last year we received orders worth millions for premium gift items.

The source said big telecoms and construction companies and free zones are among the clients that have placed orders for customised premium pens as promotional material for the New Year. The company's premium gifts on offer include 100 per cent Swiss-made Podir pens.

"The minimum order is 500 pens and the value depends on the volume and quality and positioning of the printing. The average price of such a pen ranges from Dh7 to Dh9, depending on the quantity. According to Knud Knoerding, Sales Manager of Podir, SA, a Switzerland-based firm supply promotional gifts throughout the world, the company has a good client base in the region and its UAE partner deals exclusively with many corporate clients in the region. The list of big corporate clients in the Middle East includes etisalat, TRA of UAE, MTN from Yemen, Watania telecom from Kuwait and several other big clients.

Big jewellery chains like the Joy Alukkas Group , Damas and others have customised corporate gifts solutions in gold and other precious metals. Similarly, companies like Rivoli too have many premium gift ideas for the New Year - ranging from costly leather items from Dunhill to tableware from William Yeoward Crystal. "The World Gold Council has been promoting the idea of giving corporate gifts in gold coins and special souvenirs. We have made football made of gold for a leading client in Dubai during the World Cup. In the New Year too we are working with many reputed customers in the UAE to develop customised gold gifts. We feel it is the right time for companies to think of giving valuable gifts, which carry some long-lasting value. A gift in gold is the right solution as the recipient will feel elated and keep it for a long time," said Tomy Joseph, Marketing Manager, Joy Alukkas Group . He said good companies do not hesitate to spend money on such precious gifts. Jewellers like Damas too have such golden corporate gift schemes.

"Corporate gifts offer a personalised approach to advertising and marketing to enhance corporate image and goodwill amongst the company's clients and other business interfaces. Promotional gifts are an effective low-cost strategy in the success of sales campaigns run by companies," said a sales executive of Good Fortune International, a company operating in the UAE and Kuwait.
