| Background |
The joint venture of DEWADEWA , Canada's Skyline Services, USA's Sino Global International, and China's Samena Power and Energy plans to develop a 2,000 MW power plant in Ras Hasyan. The joint venture will execute the project in 2 phases, each phase comprising of 1,000 MW. The plant will import hydrogen feedstock produced from coal in Sino Global's plant in Louisiana, USA DEWADEWA will own 51 percent of the plant and be the sole buyer of the its output for 20 years. The foreign consortium, led by Sino Global, will be the feasibility study consultant, Samena will be the project's contractor, and Skyline will be the technology consultant. The plant might also produce desalinated water. |
| Current Status |
In November 2008, the feasibility study is still in the preliminary stage. It is expected to be completed in Q3 2009. Phase 1 is expected to be completed in 2011 and phase 2 in 2012. In August 2008, construction was expected to start. In April 2008, the feasibility study started. In February 2008, the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by DEWADEWA and the foreign consortium. |
