The development is part of Saudi AramcoAramcoLoading...'s plan that aims at increasing gas supplies by producing an additional 50 trillion cu.ft of non-associated gas reserves by 2016.

The development program is divided into three separate packages. Package 1 includes onshore gas-processing facilities at the Manifa oilfield, package 2 covers the construction of the offshore facilities at Hasbah and package 3 includes the construction of the offshore facilities at Arabiyah.

Latest Events In May 2012, construction of the Arabiyah and Hasbah offshore packages was delayed and construction of the onshore packages and the industrial support facilities was ongoing. The site preparations package was completed.

In December 2013, construction is expected to be completed.

In Q4 2015, the gas plant is expected to begin operations marking the completion of the project.

The sub-contract includes mechanical, electrical and civil works.

On 28 February 2011, the EPC contracts for the offshore packages were awarded to SaipemSaipemLoading....

On 25 January 2011, the EPC contracts for the onshore packages were awarded. The EPC contracts for the Sulphur Recovery Units, NGL Fractionation Plant and Gas Processing Unit packages were awarded to SK Engineering and ConstructionSK Engineering and ConstructionLoading... and the EPC contract the EPC contract for the Power Co-generation Unit package was awarded to Samsung EngineeringSamsung EngineeringLoading....

In November 2010, site preparation work started.

In October 2009, the FEED study started.

On 21 September 2009, the combined overall FEED study and PMS contracts was awarded to SNC LavalinSNC LavalinLoading....

On 22 August 2009, bids for the combined overall FEED study and PMS contract were submitted.

In July 2009, the ITB for the combined overall FEED study PMS contract was issued.

In 2008, the Arabiyah gas field was discovered.
Scope of Work Construction of:

Package 1: Onshore Facilities:
- Four 1,200 t/d sulfur recovery units
- 1.7 billion cu.ft/d central gas processing plant
- Co-generation power plant
- NGL fractionation plant

Package 2: Offshore facilities at Hasbah:
- Seven 1.3 billion cu.ft/d wellhead platforms at Hasbah
- Seven 12 inch flowlines linking the platforms with the central facility
- 145 Km, 36 inch pipeline linking the platform with Arabiyah
- 99 Km power cable linking the platform with offshore facilities
- 62 Km mono-ethylene glycol pipeline linking the facilities with those in Arabiyah

Package 3: Offshore facilities at Arabiyah:
- Six 1.2 billion cu.ft/d wellhead platforms at Arabiyah
- Six 12 inch flowlines
- 150 Km pipeline linking facilities with Hasbah
- 150 Km mono-ethylene glycol pipeline between Arabiyah and Hasbah
- 91 Km submarine powercable
