Saudi AramcoSaudi Aramco plans to develop King Abdullah University for Science and Technology (KAUST), a research university located in the coastal region of Thuwal, north of Jeddah.
The project will cover an area of 36 million sq.m. and will include 64 residential buildings, villas, 21 research buildings, a marine and ocean research center (morc), a yacht club, a library, a theater, a mosque, a fire station, a clinic, a gas station, a supermarket, a golf club, a racket club, community schools, office buildings and other facilities.
KAUST is divided to 4 main packages: Residential buildings, Civic buildings, a University Campus and a Marina. The University Campus is solely developed by Saudi AramcoSaudi Aramco whereas the rest is developed by Saudi AramcoSaudi Aramco and EmaarEmaar.
Upon completion, the university will accommodate 20,000 residents.
Zuhair Fayez Partners, HOK International, Khatib and Alami, Scado and Turner Construction Interntional are the engineering and design consultants and Saudi AramcoSaudi Aramco is the PMC. |

In April 2008, construction contract covering wood works, doors, gypsum works, and false ceilings was awarded to Saudi Company for Development of Construction and Trading Company (Sacodeco) .
In March 2008, contract for the installation of aluminum glass facades was awarded to United Arab Aluminum Company.
In February 2008, soil improvement was completed.
In July 2007, substructure and superstructure IFC documents were issued. Construction contract for the research park was awarded to Saudi OgerSaudi Oger. Construction contract of the Residential and Civic buildings was awarded to Saudi BinladinSaudi Binladin. Contract for the Marina and water activities was awarded to HutaHuta.
In 2005, the project was announced. |

| Financing Source |
Gulf International Bank (GIB), Arab Bank, Calyon Credit Agricole CIB and Emirates Bank International signed an USD 853 million agreement with Saudi OgerSaudi Oger to finance the residential part of KAUST project. |
