Kingdom Holding CompanyKingdom Holding Company plans to build the kingdom Tower, a mixed development located on the Red Sea coastline, north of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The project will cover an area of 530,000 sq.m. and will reach a height of 1,600 m. (one mile) and will include a large retail, conference centre podium, a 4 seasons hotel, 3 lobbies, apartments, luxury condominiums, an observatory offices and luxury residences. The tower will be the world's tallest tower and it is part of phase 1 Kingdom City project. Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill Architecture and Thorton Tomasetti are the design consultants,and Langan Engineering is the civil engineering consultants. |

On 19 February 2012, the project was approved by Jeddah Municipality. In August 2011, the USD 1.23 billion construction contract (including MEP works) was signed between Jeddah Economic Company and Saudi Binladin GroupSaudi Binladin Group ; Emaar was no longer involved in the project. In October 2010, the project was put on hold. In September 2010, 2 companies submitted their revised bids with updated prices (Saudi Binladin GroupSaudi Binladin Group and the consortium of El-Seif Engineering & Contracting and Belgium’s Six Construct) and the design was almost finalized. On 28 April 2010, the bids for the construction contract were submitted (delayed from 14 April 2010). In March 2010, the design contract was awarded to Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill Architecture. In Q1 2010, the DB contract was changed into a construction contract. In September 2009, Kingdom Holding CompanyKingdom Holding Company shortlisted three contracting groups for the DB contract: JV of Samsung Corporation and Arabtec Construction, Multiplex and Saudi Binladin GroupSaudi Binladin Group and JV of El Seif Engineering and Contracting and Six Construct. In June 2009, Kingdom Holding company signed an agreement with Emaar Middle East to develop the project. In February 2009, the project was put on hold due to financial issues. In May 2009, the ITB for the design consultancy contract was issued. In October 2008, the project was launched. In February 2008, the project was announced. |
