| Background |
The joint venture of Saudi AramcoSaudi Aramco and ConocoPhillipsConocoPhillips plans to develop Yanbu Export Refinery. Saudi AramcoSaudi Aramco will supply the crude. The refinery will produce motor fuels and other refined products for the US and European markets. The project will be divided into 11 main packages: 4 main processing packages, and 7 other specialty packages. Saudi AramcoSaudi Aramco and ConocoPhillipsConocoPhillips will each be responsible for marketing one half of the refinery's output. KBRKBR is the program management services contractor and FEED consultant. |
| Current Status |
In November 2009, 4 long-lead equipment supply contracts worth USD500 million are expected to be awarded. The contracts cover: a coke drum (preferred bidder is Sumitomo Heavy Industries), a hydrocracker reactor (preferred bidder is Japan Steel Works), a compressor and turbine driver (preferred bidder is GE), and a distributed control system (preferred bidder is Yokogawa Corporation). 31 January 2010 is the bids submission deadline for all EPC contracts. In Q2 2010, the remaining contracts are expected to be awarded. In Q3 2014, the project is expected to be completed. The project was previously expected to be completed in 2012. |
| Previous Events |
In June 2009, ITB was re-issued for 6 EPC contracts. In April 2009, contractors submitted their pre-qualification applications for several EPC packages. On 6 November 2008, Aramco and ConocoPhillipsConocoPhillips announced that they decided to halt the bidding process. 13 December 2008 was the initial deadline for the commercial and technical bids submission for the main packages (the deadline was previously delayed from 3 November 2008). In July 2008, the ITB for the main packages was issued. In June 2008, the FEED study was completed. In May 2008, Saudi AramcoSaudi Aramco and ConocoPhillipsConocoPhillips announced the approval of continued funding for the development. In May 2006, Saudi AramcoSaudi Aramco and ConocoPhillipsConocoPhillips signed the MoU. |

In 2009, an investment decisions regarding the project are expected to be made. In August 2006, Citigroup and Riyad Bank were awarded the advisory mandate. |
