Background Red Sea Refining CompanyRed Sea Refining CompanyLoading... plans to develop Yanbu Export Refinery, in Yanbu Industrial City, Saudi Arabia.

The refinery will produce motor fuels and other refined products for the US and European markets.

The project will be divided into 11 main packages: 4 main processing packages, and 7 other specialty packages.

The crude oil will be supplied by AramcoAramcoLoading....

The feedstock will be mainly provided from the Manifa oilfield.

Air Liquide is the hydrogen supplier.

KBRKBRLoading... is the PMC and FEED study consultant.

(AramcoAramcoLoading...) and SinopecSinopecLoading... signed the initial joint venture agreement to develop the refinery and a USD 216 million construction contract for the Interconnecting Systems (Specialty Package 6) was awarded to Mohammad Al Mojil GroupMohammad Al Mojil GroupLoading... and construction started.

In August 2010, engineering work started for the project and the EPC contract for the solids handling package was awarded to Techint.

On 28 July 2010, six EPC contracts were officially signed. The Coker package was awarded to Tecnicas ReunidasTecnicas ReunidasLoading..., the Crude package was awarded to SK Engineering & ConstructionSK Engineering & ConstructionLoading... Company, the offsites and utilities package was awarded to Dayim Punj Lloyd, the Gasoline and Hydrocracker packages were awarded to Daelim Industrial Company and the Tank Farm package was awarded to ENPPIENPPILoading....

On 21 April 2010, ConocoPhillipsConocoPhillipsLoading... announced that it withdrew from the project JV.

On 5 August 2009, the combined PMC and FEED study contract was awarded to KBRKBRLoading....

On 6 November 2008, AramcoAramcoLoading... and ConocoPhillipsConocoPhillipsLoading... announced their decision to halt the bidding process.

In May 2006, Saudi AramcoAramcoLoading... and ConocoPhillipsConocoPhillipsLoading... signed the MoU.
