The project aims to decrease the dumping of waste in the landfill.
The project includes the burning of waste and upstream waste collection. The plant will have the capacity to process 6,500 t/d of waste and to generate 150 MW of power.
The domestic waste that will be used for the plant will come from all across the emirate.
Cabinet Merlin is the technical consultant.

Previous Events
In April 2012, the bids for the construction contract were under evaluation.
In September 2011, bidders submitted their proposals for the construction contract (delayed from 19 December 2010). The bids submission deadline was extended due to bidders requests.
On 31 May 2010, the RFP for the construction contract was issued.
On 6 December 2009, companies submitted their pre-qualification documents. 14 companies out of 28 were pre-qualified for the project.
