| Background |
The consortium of China National Petroleum Company (CNPC), Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas), South Oil CompanySouth Oil Company (SOC) and TotalTotal (led by CNPC) plans to redevelop the Halfaya Oil Field in Al Amarah, southeast of Iraq. The oilfield consists of 300 wells and 9 reservoirs and has 4.1 billion bpd of estimated oil reserves. The project aims at increasing production capacity from the current 3,100 bpd to 535,000 bpd of oil. |

| Previous Events |
In February 2012, engineering works on the early production facilities and the crude processors plants were ongoing. In June 2011, the EPC contract for the crude processors plants was awarded to China Petroleum Engineering Construction Company (CPEEC). In May 2011, the drilling of four wells was completed and the EPC contract for the early production facilities package was awarded to China Petroleum Engineering Construction Company (CPEEC). In Q1 2011, drilling works started. In December 2010, the site preparations were completed. In August 2010, the drilling contract for the drilling of 23 wells was awarded to CNPC Bohai Drilling Engineering Company (subsidiary of CNPC). On 27 January 2010, the deal to redevelop the field was officially signed between the Consortium of China National Petroleum Company (CNPC), TotalTotal , Petronas and SOC, and the Iraqi Ministry of Oil. On 11 December 2009, the Consortium of CNPC, TotalTotal , Petronas and SOC was awarded the contract to redevelop the oil field. |
