| Background |
Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Aramco) plans to develop the Karan Gas Field as part of an investment program to meet the kingdom's soaring demand for gas, at Karan offshore, Saudi Arabia.
The project is divided into an offshore and onshore package and comprises the construction of three main facilities, gas processing facility at the Manifa facility, platforms and power generation units, and subsea pipeline.
The offshore Karan field is about 100 km north of the giant onshore Ghawar oilfield and estimated to contain 9 trillion cu.ft/d of gas. Once the project is completed the Karan Field is expected to produce 1.8 billion cu.ft./d of gas.
Foster Wheeler is the FEED and PMC for the onshore package.
Petrocon Arabia is the FEED and the PMC for the offshore package. |
| Current Status |
In Q3 2009, execution on the project is expected to start. The project is expected to be completed in 2012 (delayed from Q4 2011).

In July 2008, Aramco announced that it will increase the output capacity of Karan to 1.8 billion cu.ft/d from 1.5 billion cu.ft/d.
In May 2007, the joint FEED and PMC contract for the onshore package was awarded to Foster Wheeler.
In February 2008, Saudi Aramco announced that the gas will be processed at a facility in Manifia not Khursaniyah as originally planned. |
