Saudi Arabian Oil CompanySaudi Arabian Oil Company (AramcoAramco ) plans to develop the Karan Gas Field as part of an investment program to meet the kingdom's soaring demand for gas, at Karan offshore, Saudi Arabia. The project is divided into an offshore and onshore package and comprises the construction of three main facilities: gas processing facility at the Manifa facility, platforms and power generation units and a subsea pipeline. The offshore Karan field is about 100 km north of the giant onshore Ghawar oilfield and estimated to contain 9 trillion cu.ft/d of gas. Upon completion, the Karan Field is expected to produce 1.8 billion cu.ft./d of gas. Foster WheelerFoster Wheeler is the FEED study consultant and PMC for the onshore packages. Petrocon ArabiaPetrocon Arabia is the FEED study consultant and the PMC for the offshore packages. |

In Q3 2009, work on the project started. In March 2009, the EPC contracts for the four packages were awarded. The onshore package was awarded to Hyundai Engineering and ConstructionHyundai Engineering and Construction Company. The sulphur recovery unit was awarded to GS Engineering and Construction CompanyGS Engineering and Construction Company . The Platforms and Pipeline package was awarded to J Ray Mc DermottJ Ray Mc Dermott . In July 2008, AramcoAramco announced that it will increase the output capacity of Karan to 1.8 billion cu.ft/d from 1.5 billion cu.ft/d. In February 2008, Saudi AramcoAramco announced that the gas will be processed at a facility in Manifia not Khursaniyah as originally planned. In 2007, the combined FEED study and PMC contract for the offshore package was awarded to Petrocon ArabiaPetrocon Arabia . In May 2007, the combined FEED study and PMC contract for the onshore package was awarded to Foster WheelerFoster Wheeler . In April 2007, bids for the combined FEED study and PMC contract for the onshore package were submitted. |
