SonatrachSonatrach plans to construct an oil refinery in Tiaret (Hauts Plateaux mountains), in northwest Algeria.
The Tiaret refinery will process Saharan Blend crude oil.
Output of the refinery will include gasoline, gasoil, jet fuel, butane, propane and naphtha.
Jacobs Consultancy and HSBCHSBC are the feasibility study consultants.
SonatrachSonatrach carried out the engineering development of the project.
Current Status
On 19 October 2009, technical bids for the FEED contract were opened.
In Q4 2009, bidders are expected to submit their commercial proposals for the EPC contract.
In 2014, the project is expected to be completed (delayed from 2013).
Previous Events
In 2009, the ITB for the FEED contract was issued.
In April 2009, 15 companies submitted their request for pre-qualification (RFP) applications for the FEED contract. Pre-qualified companies are expected to be announced by the end of April 2009.
In February 2008, SonatrachSonatrach carried out the preliminary engineering development of the project.
In Q3 2007, the feasibility study was finalized.
In October 2007, SonatrachSonatrach reconsidered seeking an international partner.
In mid 2006, SonatrachSonatrach dropped the bid evaluation and canceled the tendering.
In 2006, SonatrachSonatrach was seeking an international partner to hold 35% in a joint venture in order to develop the refinery. SonatrachSonatrach was negotiating with CNPC and Total.
In Q4 2005, the project was announced.
