Background National Electric Power CompanyNational Electric Power CompanyLoading... (NEPCO) plans to develop Jordan's third IPP in the east of Amman.

The purpose of the project is to meet the increasing national demand for electricity in the region.

The plant was previously planned to be located in Zarqa but the location was changed to the east of Amman.

The oil-fired power plant will use either steam turbines or diesel engines. The plant will use natural gas if the oil feedstock is unavailable in the future.

NEPCO will buy the electricity produced.

K&M Engineering and Consulting is the technical consultant.

In January 2012, the bids for the BOO contract were under evaluation.

On 28 July 2011, the bids for the BOO contract were submitted (delayed for the third time from 24 March 2011).

In December 2010, the RFP for the BOO contract was issued (delayed from August 2010 and November 2010).

At the beginning of December 2010, NEPCO prequalified six groups for the BOO contract.

On 31 October 2010, interested companies submitted their pre-qualification documents (submission deadline delayed from 30 September 2010 and 17 October 2010).

In September 2010, the RFQ for the BOO contract was issued (previously expected in June 2010).

In Q3 2010, the technical consultancy contract was awarded to K&M Engineering and Consulting.

In Q4 2009, the project was announced.
