Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment CompanyQatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company plans to build phase 1 of the Automated People Mover system (AMP) in West Bay in Doha, Qatar. The project is part of the Qatar Rail Project program aiming to develop a consolidated national railway system. Phase 1 will have a capacity of 5,900 passengers per hour per direction and will include a dual-track underground tunnel, 10 stations and a fleet of 42 cars, configured into two- and three-car consists. The APM will share a common underground, multi-level station with 3 other transport systems: the future metro system is planned between the City of Lusail and Doha International Airport, the regional rail line and the high speed rail connection to Bahrain. The APM will connect the convention center (and the regional metro) to the major activity hubs within the West Bay area. West Bay area includes a commercial center, office buildings, residential towers, government offices, a convention center, high and mid rise towers and parking facilities. The West Bay area is landlocked by the sea on three sides and has only limited access on the remaining side. Deutsche Bahn International is the master plan consultant for the Qatar Rail Project. Lea+Elliott is the preliminary engineering consultant. They will also prepare the tender documents. |

In October 2011, the PMC tender was cancelled. In September 2011, the bids for the PMC contract were under evaluation. On 29 March 2011, the bids for the PMC contract were submitted (previously expected on 8 March 2011). In December 2010, the preliminary design was completed. In March 2009, the project was in its preliminary engineering phase (including the design of the APM operating system and establishing the infrastructure interfaces and requirements). In August 2008, Qatari Diar signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Deutsche Bahn International to develop the conceptual design for the Qatar Rail Project. |
