The JV of Saudi Arabian Oil CompanySaudi Arabian Oil Company and Sumitomo Chemical CompanySumitomo Chemical Company plans to expand the PetrorabighPetrorabigh integrated refinery and petrochemical complex at Rabigh, Saudi Arabia. This is phase 2 which includes the expansion of the ethane cracker and the construction of five petrochemical plants, an aromatics complex and an ethylene cracker debottlenecking plant. The project aims at producing specialist petrochemicals such as paraxylene, vinyl acetate monomer and other petrochemical products based on feedstock such as ethylene, propylene, benzene and natural gas liquids (NGL). The project also aims at increasing gasoline production. KBRKBR is the basic engineering consultant. JGC CorporationJGC Corporation is the PMS and FEED study consultant. |

In February 2012, bids for the EPC contracts for several packages were under evaluation. In October 2011, bids for the EPC contracts for several packages were under evaluation. In September 2011, the seven packages were in the tendering and bidding phase for the EPC contract. In Q2 2011, the FEED study was completed. In March 2011, the FEED study was ongoing. The JV of Saudi Arabian Oil CompanySaudi Arabian Oil Company and Sumitomo Chemical CompanySumitomo Chemical Company was in the process of prequalifying companies for the EPC contracts. In December 2009, the contract to provide basic engineering and related services for the detailed feasibility study was awarded to KBRKBR . On 23 June 2009, two cost-reimbursable Engineering and Project Management Services contracts for the feasibility study were awarded to JGC CorporationJGC Corporation (out-of-Kingdom work) and JGC Gulf International (in-Kingdom work). On 19 April 2009, AramcoAramco , Sumitomo Chemical CompanySumitomo Chemical Company and PetrorabighPetrorabigh signed the MoU to conduct the feasibility study for the project. The feasibility study will be conducted by the JV of AramcoAramco and Sumitomo Chemical CompanySumitomo Chemical Company and PetrorabighPetrorabigh will provide support and assistance and will evaluate the viability of the project. On 11 April 2009, bids for the combined Engineering and Project Management Services contract were submitted. In Q1 2009, pre-qualification for the combined Engineering and Project Management Services contract was completed. In Q4 2008, the combined Engineering and Project Management Services contract was re-tendered. In November 2007, pre-qualification documents for the combined Engineering and Project Management Services contract were submitted.
