| Background |
The Power and Water Utility Company for Jubail and YanbuPower and Water Utility Company for Jubail and Yanbu (MARAFIQMARAFIQ ) plans to construct the second phase of Yanbu power and desalination project in yanbu industrial city, Medina, Saudi Arabia. The project was launched after the planned Yanbu IWPP project was canceled due to financing problems. The primary fuel will consist of heavy fuel oil. The back up fuel will consist of arabian light crude (ALC) The desalination plant will use either the multi-effect desalination (MED) or multi-stage flash (MSF) technology. In March 2011, the EPC contract was awarded to HanwhaHanwha Corporation and construction started. In February 2011, the bids for the EPC contract for the water and power packages were under evaluation. MARAFIQMARAFIQ shortlisted 3 of the 6 bidders. In November 2010, bidders submitted their proposals for the EPC contract (delayed from 2 October 2010). In July 2010, the RFP for the EPC contract was issued. |
