DohalandDohaland plans to build the MsheirebMsheireb project, a community development located in the old city, center of Doha. The project will cover an area of 350,000 sq.m. and will include the demolition of most old buildings and the construction of new buildings, 120,000 sq.m. of open space, 900 new residential units, an underground pedestrian city extended over the entire area including car parks with capacity of 13,700 cars to ease the above ground traffic congestion. The project will restore old existing buildings in its new design such as Jassim Bin Mohammed House and Radwani House. The project will be developed in several phases: Phase 1-a will include the construction of the Diwan Amiri Quarter including the Diwan Annex, Amiri Guard and the National Archive, a Heritage Quarter that includes the Eid Prayer Ground and 4 heritage houses, and infrastructure works. Phase 1-b will cover the construction of 15 buildings (Mandarin Oriental Hotel of 158 rooms and 91 apartments; 2 office buildings of 52 retail units; and 12 residential buildings with 180 apartments), a multi-purpose cultural forum, a shopping street, townhouses, a school and a mosque. Details for Phase 1-c were not revealed. Phase 2 will cover the construction of 10 buildings including 25,388 sq.m. of hotels, 24,000 sq.m. of residential space, 68,500 sq.m. of retail and 27,000 sq.m. of office space. Phase 3 will cover the construction of 14 buildings including a 28,400 sq.m. hotel, 77,200 sq.m. of residential space, 29,000 sq.m. of retail space, 11,000 sq.m. of office space, 2,600 sq.m. of community use and a 2,500 sq.m. mosque. Phase 4 will cover the construction of 12 buildings including a four-star hotel, commercial units, retail shops, healthcare facilities residential units, civic buildings and public spaces. The project aims to bridge the gap between the past and the present history of Doha.
