| Background |
Abu Dhabi Ports CompanyAbu Dhabi Ports Company plans to develop Khalifa Port, part of Khalifa Port and Industrial Zone (KPIZ) project, located 5 km offshore Taweelah, Abu Dhabi. This project is the dredging and reclamation package of Phase 1 of Khalifa Port. Khalifa Port will be developed in 5 phases. The first phase will have a capacity of 2 million TEUs and 6 million tonnes of general cargo. By the end of phase 4 in 2028, the port's capacity will increase to 22 million TEUs and 35 million tonnes of general cargo. HPA and Halcrow prepared the project's detailed engineering studies. Bechtel is the Program Management Services (PMS) consultant. Bechtel will manage and co-ordinate the master planning, design and construction of the port and associated infrastructure. Han Padron is the master plan consultant for the offshore work. EIA is the master plan consultant for the onshore work. Arab Centre Engineering Service (ACES) is the onshore geotechnical investigations consultant. |

November 2006, the ITB was issued. |

Work on Phase 1 includes: - Dredging and reclamation of 47 cu.m. to create a 12 km long approach channel - Construction of a 3.2 km quay wall - Construction of 7.3 km of breakwaters and revetments - Construction of 4.6 km causeway (bridge) connecting the offshore port to the onshore port facilities - Construction of a 4.5 km causeway (trestle) - Construction of 800 m long berth |
