Oman Power and Water Procurement CompanyOman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWPOPWP ) plans to construct an independent power provider in Sur, in Al Sharqiyah region. The purpose of the project is to meet the rising national power demand. The feedstock will consist of gas. The project was launched after the planned Ghubrah IWPP was put on hold due to environmental concerns. The Sur IPP will have a capacity of 2,000 MW. |

On 15 July 2011, the PPA contract was signed between the Marubeni-led consortium and the Oman Power and Water Procurement CompanyOman Power and Water Procurement Company . In July 2011, the BOO contract was awarded to the Consortium of Marubeni CorporationMarubeni Corporation (50%), Qatar Electricity and Water CompanyQatar Electricity and Water Company (15%), Chubu Electric Power Company(30%) and Bahwan Engineering CompanyBahwan Engineering Company (5%), and construction of the power plant started. On 13 July 2011, Daewoo Engineering and ConstructionDaewoo Engineering and Construction was appointed as the EPC contractor along with the suppliers: SiemensSiemens to supply gas turbines, Fuji to supply steam turbines and Nooter Ericson to supply heat recovery steam generators. In June 2011, three bidders were shortlisted for the BOO contract: Marubeni-led consortium, MitsuiMitsui -led consortium and SiemensSiemens . In May 2011, the bids for the BOO contract were under evaluation. On 7 March 2011, bidders submitted their proposals for the BOO contract (previously expected on 18 October 2010). On 27 December 2010, companies submitted their technical qualification documents. On 18 October 2010, companies submitted their pre-qualification documents. In September 2010, the RFQ and the RFP for the BOO contract were issued. In August 2010, OPWPOPWP was securing the environmental and regulatory consents to launch the RFP for Al Sur IWPP. The RFP was previously expected to be issued in August 2010. In July 2010, OPWPOPWP appointed the advisory services contract to the consortium of British Power International, Ernst and YoungErnst and Young and DLA PiperDLA Piper (no bidding was made). In Q2 2010, the project was announced after Al Ghubrah IWPP was put on hold. |

Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) is expected to supply approximately 50% of the USD 1.2 billion financing. The remaining 40-50 per cent will be secured from commercial lenders. |
