| Background |
The Omani Ministry of Transport and CommunicationMinistry of Transport and Communication plans to expand Muscat International Airport in Al Seeb, Muscat, Oman. The purpose of the project is to increase the passengers per year capacity from 5 to 48 million (expected to be reached in 2050). Phase 1 of the expansion project consists of three packages: MC1 includes a new runway, roads, interchanges and bridges. MC2 includes an Air Traffic Control tower, an air traffic management center, data center, and other facilities. MC3 includes a passenger terminal, shopping arcades, a 40 bed hotel and catering facilities. Phases 2 and 3 will be revealed in the future. The JV of COWICOWI and Larsen Architects and Consulting Engineers is the conceptual design consultant. National Engineering Services of Pakistan and Partners (NESPAK) is the design consultant. Aeroports de Paris Ingenierie (ADPI) is the PMC. |

In November 2010, the air traffic control tower package was awarded to Carillion Alawi. In October 2010. the passenger terminal package was awarded to the consortium of BechtelBechtel , Bahwan Contracting Company and Enka. In October 2008, the bids for the dredging and land reclamation contract were submitted. In November 2007, the USD 42 million construction contract for the land filling and leveling works was awarded to Galfar Engineering and ContractingGalfar Engineering and Contracting . In April 2007, companies were invited to prequalify for the construction contract. In June 2006, the PMC contract was awarded to Aeroports de Paris Ingenierie (ADPI) In February 2006, the preliminary design of phase 1 was completed. In January 2005, the conceptual design consultancy contract was awarded to the JV of COWICOWI and Larsen Architects & Consulting Engineers. In February 2003, the project was put on hold to after the completion of the feasibility study. |

Construction of an airport including: Package 1 (also known as MC1): - Civil works package: construction of a 4.3 km runway, several taxiways, an apron, and 7 bridges and roads. Package 2 (also known as MC2): - Construction of a 100 m. tall air traffic control tower, an air traffic management center, data center, and other utilities to support the passenger terminal. Package 3 (also known as MC3): - Passenger terminal package: construction of a passenger terminal, shopping arcades, restaurants, cafes, lounges and a 40 bed hotel. |
