Background The National Investment Commission of IraqNational Investment Commission of IraqLoading... plans develop a low-cost housing units across all Iraqi's provinces and the Kurdistan Region.

The Project will include 1 million housing units.

The National Investment Commission will grant different developers and investors a plot of land and license to develop the requisite number of Housing Units allocated to a project.

Each developer or investor will develop his own plot including housing units, retail outlets office spaces, community facilities along with the respective infrastructure.

Each development will use modern building technologies.

Latest Events In April 2012, NIC and Hanwha Engineering and Construction were finalyzing the construction contract.

In May 2012, the construction contract is expected to be officially signed between NIC and Hanwha Engineering and Construction.

In Q2 2012, construction of the housing units is expected to start (delayed from Q4 2011).

In 2013, the project is expected to be completed.
Previous Events In November 2011, the owner received the approval to proceed with the construction of the project, and Hyundai Engineering and Construction Company was no longer involved.

In July 2011, the PMC contracts were awarded to Hill InternationalHill InternationalLoading... and Hillstone International.

In Q3 2010, the DBO contract was awarded to Trac Development Group.

In March 2010, the bids for the developers or investors interested in the project were submitted.

On 14 December 2009, the project was announced.

Infrastructure works include:

- Water networks
- Sewage networks
- Electricity networks
- Telecommunication lines
Financing Source The Trade Bank of Iraq (TBI) is the lead financial adviser of the Program.
