The project is part of a wider scheme to boost PET production capacity at the plant. It aims at adding 400,000 t/y of purified terepthalic acid (PTA) to the existing 350,000 t/y unit at Ibn Rushd's Yanbu complex.

Previous Events In September 2011, the compressor train supply sub-contract was awarded to Siemens and construction of the plants started.

In December 2010, the EPC contract was awarded to CTCI Corporation.

On 18 September 2010, commercial bids for the EPC contract were submitted (delayed from June 2010).

On 27 August 2010, technical bids for the EPC contract were submitted (delayed from June 2010).

In April 2010, the ITB for the EPC contract was issued.

In June 2009, the FEED study contract was awarded to UHDEUHDELoading....

In January 2009, the project was announced.
