| Background |
Abu Dhabi Department of TransportAbu Dhabi Department of Transport (DOTDOT ) plans to develop a metro rail as part of a master public transport plan in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The purpose of the project is to connect the proposed Central Business District with Sowwah Island, Reem Island, Saadiyat Island, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi International Airport, Masdar, Capital City District, Emerald Gateway, Zayed Sports City and ADNEC. The monorail track (which is part of the metro project) is expected to be 31 Km long. Each monorail station is expected to handle 1,000 commuters. The monorail might also include 15 two-coach trains and 5-minute intervals between each service train and another. Most of the proposed network is expected to be underground. Abu Dhabi Metro will be linked to Dubai Metro to other cities in the UAE and to other GCC states. This project is part of Abu Dhabi's Department of TransportDepartment of Transport plan to invest USD 82 billion in the transport network of Abu Dhabi, which includes the construction of roads and a Light Rail. Fluor CorporationFluor Corporation is the PMC. ADAPT consortium is the feasibility study and design consultant. |

In Q3 2011, the feasibility study was completed. In October 2010, the feasibility study and design consultancy contract was signed with ADAPT consortium, composed of AECOMAECOM , Parsons Brinckerhoff MiddleeastParsons Brinckerhoff Middleeast and DB International companies. In Q2 2010, the feasibility study started. In January 2010, the PMC contract was awarded to Fluor CorporationFluor Corporation . In December 2009, the negotiations regarding the award of the PMC contract started. In Q4 2009, the PMC contract was expected to be awarded but it was delayed to an indefinite date. On 27 August 2009, Abu Dhabi Department of TransportAbu Dhabi Department of Transport sent its recommendation for the PMC and design consultancy contracts to Abu Dhabi's Executive Council for approval. In July 2009, bidders submitted their proposals for the PMC and design consultancy contract and 6 consortia were shortlisted. On 27 May 2009, bidders submitted their proposals for the consultancy contract. The bids submission deadline was delayed for the second time from April 2009. In February 2009, Abu Dhabi Department of TransportAbu Dhabi Department of Transport issued the ITB for the consultancy contract, which includes the feasibility study, concept design, preliminary engineering, tender documents preparation, award of construction contracts. In 2006, the project was launched. |
