The General Presidency of Youth Welfare in Jeddah plans to develop King Abdullah stadium, located in the north of Jeddah. The project will include a 60,000 spectator football stadium and related facilities. The project was initially planned to have a capacity of 100,000 seats and to be integrated within the master plan of the new Down town Jeddah, but was downsized to 60,000 seats stadium only. Arup is the design consultant. |

In November 2010, the project was put on hold. In 2010, design started. In July 2009, AramcoAramco was selected as the project developer. In February 2009, the project was approved. |
