Background The Qatar Electricity and Water CompanyQatar Electricity and Water CompanyLoading... (QEWC) plans to expand Ras Abu Fontas desalination plant (RAF A1) at the existing complex.

The purpose of the project is to increase the total capacity of the plant to 70 million g/d adding 45 million g/d of desalinated water.
Latest Events At the end of December 2010, the project was completed (the project was initially expected to be completed in December 2009).
Previous Events In June 2010, the commissioning of the plant started.

Scope of Work Construction of 3 desalination units with a total capacity of 45 million g/d and all related facilities.
Financing Source Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi is the financial adviser.

The project will be financed on a 20:80 percent equity/debt basis.

In March 2008, QEWC signed the financial agreements with The Bank of Tokyo MitsubishiThe Bank of Tokyo MitsubishiLoading..., The Royal Bank of Scotland, Standard Chartered BankStandard Chartered BankLoading..., Gulf International BankGulf International BankLoading..., and Doha BankDoha BankLoading... for the provision of a USD 300 million loan, and with Qatar Islamic Bank for the provision of USD 150 million in Islamic financing.
