| Background |
Qatar Railways Development CompanyQatar Railways Development Company plans to build a local transport system in Doha, Qatar.
The purpose of the project is to integrate Qatar's various planned railways into a comprehensive and consolidated national railway system.
The project is part of the government's plan to connect Qatar to other GCC countries.
The Qatar Rail project consists of the following packages: the east coast rail link which is a passenger and freight railway linking Ras Laffan and Mesaieed via Doha, a high speed link between the New Doha International Airport, Doha City Center, and Kingdom of Bahrain via Qatar-Bahrain Causeway, a freight rail link based on the GCC rail and Doha expressway studies, Doha Metro Network based on the Qatar Transport Master Plan, a light rail (LRT) and automated people mover (APM) networks located in Lusail, Education City and West Bay.
Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment CompanyQatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company and Deutsche Bahn International are undertaking the study to develop the project. |

| Previous Events |
In October 2011, the tender for the PMC contract for the West Bay APM was cancelled. The Lusail light rail transit network was under construction and the DB contract of the Doha metro network was under tendering and bidding.
In September 2011, the PMC contract for the Qatar Rail Network Program was awarded to Parsons Brinckerhoff InternationalParsons Brinckerhoff International.
On 6 April 2011, the CMS contract for the Lusail LRT Network was awarded to the JV of Parsons International and Aecom.
In 2010, the preliminary design for the West Bay automated people mover was completed.
In October 2009, Qatar Railways Development CompanyQatar Railways Development Company was launched.
In August 2008, a USD 1 billion MoU was signed between Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment CompanyQatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company and Deutsche Bahn International to develop the conceptual design. |
