| Background |
The General Authority of Civil AviationGeneral Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) plans to expand King Abdulaziz International AirportKing Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The purpose of the project is to increase the airport's capacity from 15 million passengers per year to 30 million passengers per year. The KAIA Development Project (KADP) is developed in three phases at a cost of USD 11.3 billion. Phase 2 is expected to be completed in 2020 with a capacity of 50 million passengers per year and phase 3 is expected to be completed in 2035 with a capacity of 80 million passengers per year. The first phase of the airport expansion involves the overhaul and construction of 2 passenger terminals (north and south), the construction of a general aviation terminal, a desalination plant and other facilities. Aeroports De Paris Ingenierie (ADPI) is the design consultant. Dar Al Handasah Shair and Partners is the PMC. |

In April 2012, the construction of the airfield facilities, the new terminal and the automated people mover was ongoing, the fuel oil terminal was under planning and the DB contract for the aircraft maintenance hangars was awarded to the Jv of TAV, Al Rajhi Holding and Al Habtoor Leighton. In August 2013, the airfield facilities package is expected to be completed. In Q1 2014, the automated people mover is expected to be completed. In 2014, the project is expected to be completed. |

In November 2010, the new terminal and the infrastructure package were awarded to Saudi Binladin GroupSaudi Binladin Group . In May 2010, the general aviation terminal was completed. In Q4 2009, the Hajj terminal was completed. In October 2009, the west runway was completed. On 12 February 2009, the north and south terminals were completed. In November 2008, GACA signed a USD 57 million contract with Fraport AG to operate the airport. In August 2008, Aeroports De Paris Ingenierie (ADPI) signed a USD 137 million design contract for Phase 1 of the KAIA expansion program. In February 2008, the design for KADP phase 1 started. In January 2008, the construction works started. |
