| Background |
Qatar FoundationQatar Foundation plans to build Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC), a venue for conferences, exhibitions and cultural events located in Education City, Doha. The project will cover an area of 150,000 sq. m. and will include an auditorium with 2,500 seats, a theater with 500 seats, a conference hall, exhibition space, auditorias, 52 meetings rooms, VIP rooms, catering facilities and prayer rooms. The project's main feature is the Sidra tree located at the front façade of the building. Upon completion, the center will accommodate 7,000 people. Arata Isozaki & Associates and RHWL Architects are the conceptual design consultants, Syska Hennessy is the detailed design consultant, HalcrowHalcrow is the structural engineer and services engineer consultant, Buro HappoldBuro Happold is the façade engineer, Yamasaki is the architect consultant and engineer, KEO International ConsultantsKEO International Consultants is the PMC. |

In May 2010, stage 1 of the project was completed. In September 2009, the main construction contract (including MEP works) was awarded to the JV of MidmacMidmac and Six ConstructSix Construct . In August 2009, construction of civil works of stage 2 started by Joannou and Paraskevaides Contractors and the structure works by Ever Sandai from Malaysia. In Q1 2009, the detailed design was completed. In May 2006, the DB contract for the construction of the building (stage 1) (worth USD 610 million) was awarded to Baytur Insaat Taahhüt and the construction contract of the Sidra Tree was awarded to Victor Buyck Steel Construction. In Q1 2006, the design started. In 2006, the project was launched. |

Construction of a 150,000 sq. m., 6 storeys building with a basement, including: - 2,500 seat auditorium - 500 seat theater - Conference hall for 4,000 people - 2 tiered auditoriums - 52 meetings rooms - 40,000 sq. m. of exhibition space - VIP rooms - Catering facilities - prayer rooms The convention center is 250 me. long, 110 m. wide. 69,000 sq. m. of the building is made of reinforced concrete. 90,000 sq. m. is made of structural steel. |
