| Background |
The project calls for 1200 MW extension at PP9 power plant at C & D Blocks facility in Riyadh.
PP9 is an existing facility comprising of a series of Blocks. The initial capacity of PP9 station was 1,296 MW comprising four CCGT blocks of gas turbines and a steam turbine. Each Block consists generally of eight 60MW turbine units.
Lahmeyer International of Germany is the feasibility study consultant. |

In July 2008, the construction of the project was completed.
In March 2006, Arabian Bemco Contracting Company was awarded the EPC contract to expand PP9 Station by 1,200 MW.
Earlier, the tender was put on hold and re-tendered in December 2005 due to change in project’s scope on operational requirements. |
| Scope of Work |
Construction of blocks C and D alongside the existing facility with 20 heavy crude-fired GE frame 7 turbines and associated facilities. |
| Financing Source |
A consortium of Saudi banks and Bahrain-based Gulf International Bank (GIB) signed a USD643 million financing agreement with Arabian Bemco Contracting Company for the expansion. Besides GIB which is owned by GCC governments, the consortium includes the Saudi banks Samba Financial Group, Saudi Hollandi Bank, Banque Saudi Fransi and National Commercial Bank (NCB). |
